SHARP-SHOOTER: Gillingham players celebrate Danny Jackman's winner

Gillingham 2 Brentford 1

GILLINGHAM grabbed a crucial three points against Brentford thanks to Danny Jackman?s late winner.

The defender lashed the ball home from 20 yards to win a tense encounter against the relegation-threatened London side.

Brentford had taken the lead in direct fashion as goalkeeper Stuart Nelson hit the ball long and striker Jo Kuffour calmly lobbed Gills? stranded keeper Romain Larrieu after just seven minutes.

Gillingham took a while to get back into the game and it wasn?t until the 29th minute when they found the equaliser.

German winger Felix Bastians crossed in a free-kick and Andrew Crofts was on hand to net his sixth of the season with an unchallenged headed effort.

The Gills remained on top for the rest of the half but Brentford came close on a number of occasions in the second half and twice hit the woodwork.

Jackman scored the winner on 88 minutes after chesting the ball down, beating three defenders and shooting past keeper Stuart Nelson from distance.

Gills: Larrieu, Tonge, Jackman, Cox, Chorley, Crofts, Southall, Bastians (Easton 86), Mulligan, McDonald (Pugh 45), Spiller. Subs Not Used: Ndumbu-Nsungu, Sancho, Jack.

Attendance: 6,113.
