Simeon Jackson was proud to represent his country

Simeon Jackson has praised manager Mark Stimson for backing him to make it at international level.

Gillingham’s eight-goal top-scorer was unable to start Saturday’s game at Bury after travelling back from Jamaica following his first call-up for international duty with Canada.

He then missed part of Monday’s training after over-sleeping and admitted to feeling a little jaded on Tuesday against Rochdale. He admits the travelling is something he now has to get used to.

Jackson said: "When you get the opportunity you take it with both hands and you just have to get used to it and do your best. The manager is behind me and he’s been magnificent about it.

"It was a very good feeling especially going back to the country I was born in.

"I’ve got a lot of family out there and to soak up the atmosphere was brilliant with 48,000 there. Unfortunately I didn’t get on but it was a good experience and I’m looking to get more of them."
