Bradley Dack welcomed fellow teenager Jake Hessenthaler into the Gills team on Saturday.

Midfielder Hessenthaler made his first Football League start at Notts County before he was replaced by Adebayo Akinfenwa midway through the second half.

Dack said: “He is a top player, he keeps the ball and has a great first touch.

“His passing and reading of the game really sticks out, he keeps the ball and is calm under pressure. We need him in there at the minute.

“We played for a few years together in the youth team and it was great to see him in the team.

“He did himself no harm. He did well and kept the ball for us. He only came off because we were behind and needed a goal.”
