JEPSON: "They had excuses if they wanted to use them but they didn't"

Cheltenham Town 1 Gillingham 1

GILLINGHAM'S hopes of promotion slipped further from their grasp on Saturday after they left Cheltenham with just a point.

The draw ended a three-game losing streak but it did little to help their Championship aspirations.

Ronnie Jepson saw his side battle with 10 men for the second half, following Ian Cox’s dismissal, and despite his frustration he acknowledged the team’s efforts.

He said: "They had excuses if they wanted to use them but thankfully they didn’t.

"I wanted them to go out and show the supporters they care and they did that in abundance in the second half."

Gillingham ended the game in 15th place and now need to bridge a 12-point gap to get among the play-off places.
