Ronnie Jepson says Gary Mulligan (pictured) should have been given a penalty

Scunthorpe United 3 Gillingham 1

GILLINGHAM manager Ronnie Jepson was left fuming at referee Graham Salisbury following the 3-1 defeat to leaders Scunthorpe.

The Gills finished the League 1 game with 10 men following Ben Chorley’s dismissal in the 63rd minute, but Jepson was angered that a penalty was not awarded to his side five minutes later.

Jepson said: "We had a blatant penalty turned down. Gary Mulligan was tugged.

"Everybody could see it but for some reason the referee wasn’t brave enough to see it, or perhaps it was because we didn’t have the crowd cheering for the penalty.

"You have to be a brave man sometimes to give the away team that and we never got the decision. I spoke to the referee afterwards and he said he’d look at it but it’s too late."
