Gillingham look set to face the festive season without their leading scorer.

The Gills are awaiting the results of tests on Monday which will show whether 10-goal striker Danny Kedwell has suffered a hernia injury.

Kedwell missed the trip to Tranmere on Friday night, where the Gills won 2-1.

“Danny could be out for a while and we will look at it on Monday,” warned Gills boss Peter Taylor.

“We are disappointed but he could be out for three or four weeks. Hopefully, that’s not the case. He might have a hernia situation and we are just checking that.”

Kedwell has been in top form under Taylor, scoring six goals in 11 games but a niggling injury problem in the last few weeks, which was thought to be just a groin strain, has held him back.

Kedwell’s injury is just one of several setbacks to cause problems for Taylor.

Both Danny Hollands and Chris Whelpdale were also ruled out of the trip to Tranmere through injury, while Myles Weston lasted just 22 minutes before limping off with a hamstring strain.

Taylor said: “I haven’t got a clue what’s going on at the minute. Weston’s injury is another one but it is not a bad hamstring. That makes him a doubt for Boxing Day, which again is a bit frustrating for us.”
