Boss Peter Taylor aims to bring striker Danny Kedwell back for the season finale against Shrewsbury.

The Gills manager decided against taking Kedwell to Preston on Saturday in a bid to preserve him for the final home game. Kedwell has been out with a knee injury and only recently returned to action with a 20-minute spell against Tranmere.

Taylor said: “He’s had a bit of swelling where he’s probably come back too soon and he’s done that because I’ve asked him to.

“He wants to play and we have to hold him back but I wanted him back for that 20 minutes against Tranmere, that was the whole idea of it.

“We were hoping there would be no swelling but there was. On the strength of that there is no point in taking a risk.

“We are going to get him right for Shrewsbury here.

“It’s not serious. He had a sugar injection two or three weeks ago that gave him the opportunity to get himself right.

“Otherwise he wouldn’t have played again this season – he’s fine but it’s just a risk to put him in.”
