SENT OFF: Jamie Turner

Welling 1 Hampton & Richmond 1

KEEPER Jamie Turner saw red against Hampton on Saturday as Welling plunged deeper into the relegation mire.

Turner was sent off for a professional foul on Ian Hodges 11 minutes from time as the Wings found yet another way to gift the opposition three points.

All had been going to plan for Andy Ford's team when they led at half-time courtesy of Sam Gargan's header after 32 minutes.

A well worked move saw Ohran Stewart cross from the left and Gargan directed an excellent header past keeper Matt Lovett.

Welling looked comfortable in the second half before they pressed the self-destruct button by conceding three goals in the last 14 minutes.

Hampton equalised on 76 minutes when Lawrence Yaku turned the ball home from close range.

The decisive moment arrived three minutes later when Turner raced from his line to bring down Hodges. Despite a covering defender and the Hampton striker going away from goal, referee Smith still produced the red card.

Welling introduced substitute goakeeper Adam Highsted but he was beaten with five minutes left when Hodges nodded in from close range.

Wings substitute Amos Foyewa shot straight at the keeper when put clean through minutes later but there was still time for substitute Stuart Lake to score a flattering third goal for the visitors.

Welling are away to Bishop's Stortford on Tuesday evening.
