Gillingham lose in Kent Senior Cup first round, Dover beat Margate 8-0

Published: 10:57, 04 September 2013

Gillingham crashed out of the Kent Senior Cup on Wednesday night after letting slip a two-goal lead at Erith & Belvedere.

The visitors were 2-0 up after just 11 minutes thanks to goals from Kane Haysman and Nathan Nyafli.

But Luke Tanner and Aiden Sherlock brought the Ryman League Division 1 North side level and Jamie Miller won the tie for the Deres in extra-time.

A bad night for Gillingham was then compounded when they had Harry Grant sent off.

Erith now travel to Dover, who produced the stand-out result in Tuesday's matches.

Chris Kinnear fielded a strong side against his former club Margate at Crabble and they flexed their muscles with a dominant 8-0 win, equalling their biggest competitive victory.

Michael Bakare (pictured) netted a hat-trick, Ashley Carew scored twice and goals by Natahn Elder, Barry Cogan and a John Beales own goal completed the rout for Whites, who led 5-0 at half-time and had made it seven within four minutes of the start of the second half.

Margate were denied a goal from the penalty spot when keeper Mitchell Walker kept out Warren Whiteley's effort in the first half.

Ebbsfleet progressed serenely into the second round with a 3-0 home success over Tonbridge.

They had the tie won by half-time, quickly opening up a two-goal lead against Tonbridge and then adding a third, five minutes before the interval.

Stacy Long fired Ebbsfleet in front from 25 yards after just four minutes and Tom Phipp beat Angels keeper Scott Chalmers-Stevens with a long-range curler eight minutes later.

It was 3-0 when Shake Huke rose highest to head home Dominic Green’s corner late in the half.

Sittingbourne won by the same scoreline at Chatham, but Brickies joint-managers Jim and Danny Ward quit immediately after the game.

The win maintained Bourne's success rate over Chatham - it's 10 years and 12 competitive games since Chatham beat their rivals.

Ryan Golding's first-half goal was added to Tom Brunt and substitute Luke Girt.

The other tie of the evening saw Skrill Premier sides Welling and Dartford meet at Park View Road.

Both clubs fielded a mixture of youth and experience with two goals in the last seven minutes proving decisive for the Darts.

Folkestone's tie at home to Charlton, which was postponed due to their FA Cup replay, has been re-arranged for Monday, September 9.
