Previous experience inspires Gillingham defender Leon Legge to excel in League 1 next season

Defender Leon Legge is keen to show League 1 what they’ve been missing next season.

Legge joined Gillingham on New Year’s Day from Brentford, dropping down a division to get regular football.

Since arriving at Priestfield he formed a formidable partnership in central defence with Adam Barrett, the pair keeping a clean sheet in almost half of the games they played together.

Legge said: “I played three seasons in League 1 with Brentford and that’s where I wanted to be.

“Sometimes you have to take a step back to take a couple forward and after spending four or five months here (at Gillingham) I can now go back up a division and show what I can do.

“The back-four can definitely compete in League 1 and we do have the experience of playing at a higher level.”
