Lordswood captain Linden Lockhart delighted with impact from Kent's Fabian Cowdrey

Lordswood skipper Linden Lockhart would welcome Fabian Cowdrey earning a permanent spot in the Kent side – even if it meant his own team would miss out.

Cowdrey scored a brilliant century to help Lordswood win at Bexley in the Shepherd Neame Kent League on Saturday, and followed it up with 123 for Kent 2nds on Tuesday against Somerset 2nds at The Mote.

Having already featured for Kent in the t20 game against New Zealand and with youngsters getting their chance in a much-changed one-day line-up for the Spitfires, Cowdrey’s back-to-back tons have proved a gentle reminder to the selectors.

Lockhart said: “It’s a double-edge sword for us as we want him to get as many runs for us as possible. If he gets runs and then gets selected by Kent, I wouldn’t begrudge him that at all.

“I hope if he does get selected that he does well for Kent and I’d watch his progress with interest.”

After just 100 runs in five innings, Cowdrey announced his arrival at Lordswood following the summer switch from Sevenoaks Vine with 144 against Bexley.

Lockhart said: “Fabian looked in good touch and played some lovely shots. When the spinners came on, he didn’t want them to dictate. He was aggressive and looked to get on top of them.

“He set the game up for us and looked a good batsman. He has found ways of getting himself out so far, through bad luck and fantastic catches, so it was good to see him cash in.”
