Joe Martin looks to have won the fitness battle to face his brother’s MK Dons side.

Left-back Martin has been nursing an ankle injury during Gillingham’s
pre-season campaign.

He is now set to face MK Dons, a side who will field Joe’s brother David in goal.

Gills boss Peter Taylor said: “People like Joe Martin needed more sharp work and he’s had it. He is feeling better already.

“Because of the games he’s missed, it’s set him back a bit and he wasn’t quite right or match sharp but I am sure that by Saturday afternoon, he will be.”

Midfielder Amine Linganzi (hamstring) was back in training during the week after missing the game at Ebbsfleet. John Egan missed training on Monday with a stomach bug but was back the following day.

Josh Pritchard (ankle) has only just returned to training and Saturday may be too soon for him. Matt Fish (ankle) is almost certain to miss out.

Taylor knows his team will be up against it when they travel to MK Dons tomorrow (Saturday). He’ll be hoping to repeat the 1-0 win at Stadium MK last
season.

He said: “It is going to be a big test. It’s going to be a hard game but
we know it will be a football match. It’s up to us to show that we have improved.

“Nobody saw that (1-0 win last season) coming and this one could be the same.

“It might be a case of MK Dons having a lot of the ball and us defending for our lives but also showing a threat attacking-wise when we have the ball.”
