Adrian Kearney said his team did well to take something off Gymkhana

Holcombe Hockey Club men’s first team experienced a weekend of mixed emotions in two EHL Conference East fixtures.

On Saturday they were trounced 5-0 at home by Old Loughtonians only to bounce back 24-hours later to hold leaders Indian Gymkhana 3-3.

“Considering Saturday’s result, the team did well to take something off Gymkhana who are not an easy team to play against,” said team manager Adrian Kearney.

“That’s four points out of six that we’ve taken off them this season which is no mean feat.”

Holcs trailed 3-1 at one stage but showed great character to bounce back and snatch a point with a late equaliser.

Simon Ramsden opened the scoring for Holcs in the 21st minute with a penalty corner.

Gymkhana levelled with a 24th minute penalty corner and took a 32nd minute lead with yet another penalty corner.

A 53rd minute penalty stroke enabled them to increase their lead. Dave Mathews replied for Holcs three minutes later with a penalty corner before Ramsden, who had opened the scoring, closed it.
