GILLINGHAM recorded their fourth straight home win thanks to Gary Mulligan’s first half strike.

The Irish forward netted his fourth goal in five home matches to bank the points for Gillingham against a tough Rotherham side.

Mulligan tapped home from close range on 23 minutes after Matt Jarvis had opened up the Rotherham defence with a trademark run down the win, leaving the visiting defence in his wake.

An open game saw chances fall for both teams but Gillingham’s luck held out and they recorded their second clean sheet of the season.

Things started wobbly for Gillingham though when Jack’s clearance fell to Will Hoskins, who teed up strike Delroy Facey, but the striker fired wide.

After Jarvis had created the opening goal he continued to be a menace and he nearly doubled the lead on 28 minutes with a curling effort, which missed by inches.

Gillingham conceded early in the second half but the referee ruled it out for an infringement as Rotherham began to up the pressure.

Ben Chorley made a flying goal-line clearance and Ian Cox also made a vital block as Rotherham looked dangerous.

But Ronnie Jepson’s side held out for the three points and climbed up to tenth in the table and on the verge of the play off positions.

Subs not used: Pouton, Johnson, Spiller, Jackman.
