Promising young cyclist Andrew Fenn propelled himself into the limelight by landing the prestigious junior Paris Roubaix.

The 17-year-old from King’s Hill, Maidstone, landed one of junior cycling’s elite events just hours before Belgium’s Tom Boonen claimed the senior version.

Fenn came home ahead of 96 riders to land the 122-kilometre event, in a rapid time of three hours and 12 minutes.

Fenn said: “With 20km to go there was a break about a minute ahead but I attacked and got away. Then I picked off riders one by one.”

Fenn, whose win saw him claim the lead in the UCI Nations Cup Series, crossed the line oblivious to the fact that he had won, however.

“I thought there were still riders ahead,” he said. “I couldn’t believe it – it’s easily my biggest ever win.”

Fenn is part of Great Britain’s development team, and he is now preparing for races in Holland, Germany and Switzerland in preparation for the European Championships.

“My ultimate aim is to turn professional in the next few years,” he added.
