Gillingham interim manager Peter Taylor is willing to let the current Gills players show what they can do before pressing chairman Paul Scally for new ones.

Mr Scally has previously indicated that any new manager would have little room for making changes to the squad but it won’t stop Taylor from making his point.

“He (the chairman) hasn’t said we can bring people in but one thing is for sure, if I identify an area that is needed I will be going to the chairman on it,” said Taylor.

“To be fair to the chairman I said to him that once I had seen the team, then I will always tell him what I think the team needs but there were a lot more positives for me than negatives (on Saturday).

“At times they were good and at times they were disappointing but I think we need to have more time to have a look.”
