YOUNG powerlifter Samantha Morley won a gold medal at the British powerlifting championships in Birmingham.

A member of the Weights Room gym in Dover, Samantha took first place in the Under-44 kilos category.

Twenty-year-old Samantha, from Elvington, has been powerlifting for just eight months and the British championships were only the second time she had taken part in a competition.

She lifted a total of 197.5 kilos, including a personal best for the deadlift of 92.5kilos.
