Adam Riley reflected on a “brilliant couple of days” after being invited to showcase his skills for the England hierarchy ahead of the second Test against India at Lord’s.

The 22-year-old off-spinner has made a huge impact in four-day cricket for Kent this summer, since being drafted into the team to replace James Tredwell following the opening game of the season at Worcester in April.

Riley has claimed 41 First Class wickets at an average of 26.80 this summer and won praise from the likes of former England captain Andrew Strauss and spinner Graeme Swann, while selector Angus Fraser attended Kent’s clash with Derbyshire last month to watch the youngster.

ECB chiefs invited Riley to bowl in the nets on Tuesday as England’s squad prepared for Thursday's second Test – a game for which Lancashire spinner Simon Kerrigan received a call-up – while Riley spent time working with England coaches on Wednesday.
