PLAYERS and officials of the Rochester and District Football League are mourning the death of president Tommy Knell who has died at the age of 81.

Mr Knell had been connected with the league for the past 43 years since joining in 1959. League secretary Terry Lawrence said: Tommy was a remarkable man. For many years he carried the Rochester and District League on his back.

"Were it not for his efforts the league would not be the force it is today. Our condolences go to his wife Sybil."
