Gillingham 0 Leicester 2

GILLINGHAM finished with ten men as they slumped to their fifth straight home defeat against Leicester.

Second half goals from Matthew Heath and Dion Dublin did the damage with Nicky Southall receiving a controversial red-card late in the game.

Player-manager Andy Hessenthaler made a number of changes to his team with Darius Henderson returning from his loan spell at Swindon to make his first appearance of the season.

The first half had ended goalless, but within seconds of the restart Darren Byfield came inches from giving the home side the lead as he ran onto Nyron Nosworthy’s cross, forcing Kevin Pressman to scramble the ball clear.

Leciester quickly took the lead on 48 minutes, though, as Matthew Heath stabbed home from a corner after Nikos Dabizas’s initial header had been wonderfully saved by Steve Banks.

Number two came from veteran striker Dion Dublin as he had all the time in the world to blast the ball into the roof of the net on 71 minutes following Gareth Williams cross.

Things went from bad to worse for Gillingham as referee Lee Probert gave Nicky Southall his second yellow card of the evening after the player had been adjudged to have kicked the ball away, when in fact it was clear he was passing the ball to his own player.

Gills: Banks, Nosworthy, Hills, Smith, Southall, Henderson (Sidibe 80), L Johnson, Crofts, Hope, Byfield, Jarvis (Agyemang 67). Subs Not Used: Brown, Cox, Spiller.
