Gillingham manager Mark Stimson is hoping to secure Simon Royce and Danny Cullip on extended deals this week.
Goalkeeper Royce has been promised a contract but the signing of it has been drawn out. Cullip is currently on a temporary contract but Stimson wants them both signed up for next season.
Stimson said: “Simon Royce hasn’t put pen to paper because the chairman has been busy with other things going on.
“I said before, he’s had my word on it. I’ve played with him for a few years and if he can’t take my word then that does surprise me, but his deal should be finalised over the next week, along with Danny Cullip.”
Meanwhile, Canadian trialist Keegan Ayre could return to the club in the summer for manager Mark Stimson to have a better look.
The 19-year-old midfielder had a brief spell on trial after a loan stint at Scottish side Berwick had come to an end. He was previously with Hibernian.
“It’s hard to judge players at the moment as I’m so focused on the first team and I’m watching them,” said Stimson. “There is a possibility he might come back in pre-season.”
