Peter Taylor hopes to be back working at Gillingham on Sunday morning.
The Gills boss was given a deal until the end of the campaign, which reaches its conclusion on Saturday, and wants to know by the end of the weekend if he’s going to be the man to take charge next season.
With players also out of contract and deals to be done, he wants to get working.
He said: “At the minute, we have a game to play and that’s the priority, after Saturday’s player-of-the-year do I think 100% it has to be more or someone else, that’s for the club’s sake.
“I am relaxed about it. If it is me, I can’t do any more before Saturday that I would do anyway but whoever is manager next year, Sunday and Monday is the time they can get working to make the decisions needed, players going, players staying, whatever. The players deserve to know.”
There are a number of Gillingham players who will be out of contract this summer and have yet to be told if they are wanted or not. They include keeper Stuart Nelson, strikers Danny Kedwell and Adebayo Akfinfenwa and midfield duo Charlie Lee and Chris Whelpdale.
Myles Weston, Callum Davies, Adam Birchall, Craig Fagan, Gary Borrowdale and Sam Baxter will also be keen to know whether they are wanted.
