Gillingham boss Peter Taylor admits his defensive options are stretched to the limit.

Central defensive pair Leon Legge and Ryan Inniss are both expected to miss the trip to Leyton Orient on Saturday.

Young central defender Callum Davies is on loan at Dover and can’t be recalled for another fortnight.

Inniss limped off with a hamstring injury on Tuesday at Peterborough, while Legge has a hamstring strain.

Charlie Lee came off the bench to fill the void in midweek, playing a position he hasn’t experienced for a few years.

Taylor said: “We are light in defence but I was pleased with Charlie. One of the reasons Charlie never started (on Tuesday) was because I knew he didn’t have 90 minutes in him. He had missed training because he hadn’t been well.

“Ryan had a little bit of a shoulder injury and now it looks as if his hamstring is not right again and I don’t think Leon will be ready for Saturday. It looks like Tranmere (next Friday) for him.”

Gillingham could turn to young central defender Devante McKain. He is on loan at Bromley but can be recalled. Chris Whelpdale, Gary Borrowdale and Danny Kedwell all remain injured.
