We created plenty of chances without success last weekend against Oldham but if you’re doing that every week, then more times than not you’ll get a result.
We kept the ball well, we looked a lot calmer in possession, we were patient and created chances. Unfortunately, we came up against a keeper who was in excellent form.
The positive thing is, out of the chances we created, 90% of them we made the keeper work to make a save.
Manchester United played Fulham recently and had 81 crosses in the match. They didn’t win that game but if you do that over 46 games, you are going to win more than you lose.
By creating those chances, you are giving yourself an opportunity to win games. Some weeks it can be down to indifferent finishing – which it wasn’t on Saturday – or you can come up against a keeper who has had a blinder, which we did.
Bristol City are up next and they are still a massive club. A year ago, they were playing in the Championship. I have seen bits in their local press that they are earmarking games against sides ‘like Gillingham’ as winnable. We just have to give our best and we’ll be having a go.
With the resources they have got to draw from, we have done well so far against them. They have players in their side who have cost over £1m but we have earned the right to play these top sides with what we achieved last season.
