We play Crewe at home on Saturday and everybody knows their reputation for being a good footballing side.

They’ve produced so many fantastic players over the years who’ve gone on to bigger things and it’s a club with a great ethos.

You talk about Crewe’s youth policy but I feel we’re reaping the benefits of our own at the moment where the club’s had the foresight to maintain an interest in young players.

That’s the clever side of running a good youth policy. You’re not going to make a quick buck but you’ve got to develop and produce players and maintain an interest while they keep improving.

Last weekend we came away with a point from Bradford and that was a good result. It was a decent display and our young players coped well with the crowd.

Us older ones probably take it for granted because we’ve seen it and felt it before but for our young lads, 13,000 is probably the biggest crowd they’ll have played in front of and it was a great learning curve for them.

Cody McDonald’s equaliser on the day showed what he’s all about.

He gets on the end of bits and pieces, has great pace and, like all goalscorers, he gets in good positions.

You’re not going to score every chance that comes your way but the sign of a good striker is someone who’s prepared to keep getting in those positions and be brave by taking the shot on rather than passing the buck and looking to set someone else up.
