Tough competition for Kent show jumper

GUY WILLIAMS will be one of the leading British show jumpers challenging for a share of the generous prize money at this month's Olympia International Horse Show in London.
The 36-year-old, who is based at Stelling Minnis and is currently 11th in the British Show Jumpers Association rankings, will be up against nine of the top 10 international jumpers in the world, including all of the top three - Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum, Ludger Beerbaum and Markus Fuchs.
Williams, who has been a regular at Olympia over the years, is planning to take his top rides. They are the two 11 year olds - Merva Des Hayetts, a relatively new ride owned by Olympic show jumper Michael Whitaker, and Skip Two Ramiro – and the year younger bay mare Una II.
"I've been to Olympia eight or nine times to date," said Williams. "I didn't go last year, as I wasn't high enough up the rankings, so I'm looking forward to being back there.
"It's a lovely show – the best indoor show in the world with a fabulous atmosphere."
Williams missed part of the summer season this year after being breaking his shoulder in a fall but he sprang back to his best form at the Scope National Show Jumping Championships in the autumn, where he won the top Easibed 1.40m Grand Prix with the chestnut Skip Two Ramiro.
He was also among the winners at the Horse of the Year Show in October, where he headed the Puissance on Una II's debut over the big red wall, and at last month's Unex Masters in Essex.
Olympia, where prize money totals £283,920, is one of the most exciting dressage and jumping events in the world and the only British Horse Show to include either a Rolex FEI World Cup™ Jumping Qualifier or the FEI World Cup dressage Qualifier, (Olympia has both).
