England women finished bottom of their Rabobank World Cup group but claimed an impressive win on Tuesday.
A 3-1 victory over the Germans ended a run of four straight losses for the ladies – two of whom helped Holcombe to promotion last season.
Canterbury's Susannah Townsend was on the scoresheet for England while Holcombe pair Maddie Hinch and Laura Unsworth started once again.
England had already struck twice in the second half before midfielder Townsend mde it 3-0.
Townsend got away from Hannah Kruger outside Germany’s circle and rifled a shot straight through keeper Barbara Vogel.
Germany pulled a goal back a minute later through Kruger, but England saw the game out to seal the 3-1 victory.
England and their Kent contingent will face Belgium on Thursday in the 11th-12th play-off game.
