KENT over-50s A cricket team made it a double celebration for the county veteran teams when they easily won the Home Counties Championship at Three Bridges in Sussex.

Saga-sponsored Kent's six wicket victory followed the success of the first team in the national over-50 competition at Bromley seven days earlier.

On a sporting wicket, Hertfordshire won the toss and totalled 171 before being dismissed in the 43rd of their allotted 45 overs. Colin Breed (Staplehurst) and Duncan Spencer (Gravesend) each took three wickets and left arm spinner Ian Newman (Catford Wanderers) two. They were supported by Keith Millen (Staplehurst) and Tony Rose (Holmesdale), who both bowled tightly.

Kent stormed to victory with eight overs to spare. Ted Capon (City of London Poly) cracked 13 fours in a quickfire 63 and 63-year-old Jamaican Dorrington Ralph (Catford Wanderers) contributed 51 in less than 10 overs, including nine fours.
