Sometimes as players you have to come together for the better good in times of turbulence.

Half-time on Saturday at Barnsley was an occasion in point when we needed to stand up and be counted.

We started off slowly at Oakwell and to concede so early was a real blow.

In truth, Barnsley might have scored more so we were still in the game when we went into the dressing room at half-time.

Then it was about getting ourselves together as a group of players and getting our season under way.

They scored again but things turned our way after Jordan Cousins pulled a goal back and I was delighted to get the chance to open my league account.

After Yann Kermorgant’s great ball sent me clear, it was a case of whether I took it round the keeper or clipped it over him. I chose the latter.

Most people have said the ball seemed to cross the line at an incredibly slow pace but the main thing was that it did trickle over.

The travelling fans had been great all afternoon and stuck with us, so it was great to celebrate in front of them and it was great for the manager, too.

He instilled the confidence that he always does in us at half-time and that helped us to get going. We need to be confident in this league and show that we’re good enough to push on.

We all knew it wasn’t good enough in the first half and we needed to kick-start our season, which we did. We are a strong team, we always believe we will get something and luckily for us it happened.

From a personal point of view, the big thing for me this season is to get games and show people I can score. I know I have the ability to do it and I’m now finally getting my chance.

It’s still early in the season and I have three goals to my name, which is great, but there’s another 42 league games. I’ll just try and score as many as I can.
