Ian Cox is the first out-of-contract player to sign a new deal

IAN COX has put pen to paper on a new one-year contract at Gillingham.

The 36-year-old defender was one of five out-of-contract players to be offered a new deal and becomes the first to re-sign.

Cox, who was handed the club captaincy under manager Ronnie Jepson, made 36 appearances last season and is close to his 150th game for the Gills.

Jepson said: "You know what you're going to get from him and he's a great ambassador for the club."
