GILLINGHAM'S misery on the road continued at Vicarage Road with a 2-0 defeat.

Goals in each half, the first an own goal from Barry Ashby and the second late on from Chris Eagles killed off Gills' challenge.

Gills had struggled in the opening half, but a brave fight in the second saw Paul Smith smash a shot against the bar, and Darius Henderson doing likewise with a header.

Watford were under pressure for much of the second, but with a goal cusion they hung on and added a killer finish deep in injury time.
