Jermaine McGlashan can’t wait to be unleashed on League 1.
The winger has, up until now, been confined to the Football League’s basement division.
But his move to Gillingham will give him the chance to test himself against bigger teams and better defenders – and he’s looking forward to the challenge.
“I don’t want to disappoint these fans and I can’t wait to get started,” said the 26-year-old. “I am looking forward to terrorising some full-backs.
“I like to excite fans. Everywhere I have been I am the one who wants to get at the full-back and get crosses in, as well as chipping in with a few goals myself. I am quick and will also track back, which everyone wants to see.
“I will work hard, get my head down and hope to hit the ground running.
“I don’t want to waste any time finding my feet. It’s my first opportunity in League 1 and want to crack on.”
McGlashan moved around the non-league scene for several years before being snapped up by Aldershot. He spent two seasons there before another two campaigns at Cheltenham in League 2.
His former club were keen to retain his services but when Gills showed interest, he jumped at the chance.
“The gaffer (Peter Taylor) sold the club to me and being an ex-winger himself, that helps as well,” said the south Londoner, who has signed a two-year-deal with the Gills.
“I feel I will improve here as well as trying to help the squad get to where they want to get to.”
