RAINHAM snooker star Gerard Greene continues to power through the opposition as he aims to pick up the £6,000 winner’s cheque at the B&H Championship in Mansfield.
Greene, ranked 63 at the start of the season but now provisionally ranked 59, destroyed Andrew Higginson 5-0 at the Towers Snooker Club last night.
Higginson had beaten world number 17 Anthony Hamilton in the last round but he couldn't live with Greene who is nearing his very best form.
Greene requires four more victories to gain the wild card to the 2003 Benson and Hedges Masters next February and two of those could come today.
Greene meets Cypriot Mehmet Husnu in the last 16 at lunchtime with the winner to play former British Open champion Fergal O'Brien, the man he beat in the LG Cup earlier in the month, or 1995 World finalist Nigel Bond tonight.
“I'd love to go back to Wembley. It's a brilliant atmosphere and I’ve been three or four times over the years."
Tony Drago blasted a 147 break at the B&H Championships yesterday but still lost his match against Stuart Bingham. He made the maximum in the seventh frame and picked up the £5,000 cheque but lost out 5-3 to the Basildon player.
