JOHNNY ARMOUR: His last competitve fight was nearly two years ago

JOHNNY ARMOUR is preparing to make his long-awaited return to the ring and a final shot at a title.

The Chatham fighter has not fought competitively for almost two years but is waiting on news from manager Barry Hearn about an imminent return date.

The 36-year-old is looking toward contesting the European or British title, although he must first prove his credentials.

He said: "I’ve got to have a warm-up fight. I need to contest a six to eight round warm-up and then I should be in for the title. I’m a bit rusty but I’ve been sparring and I’ve been doing a lot to get my timing back."

Armour’s last fight was in July 2003, when he lost his WBU bantamweight title to Australian’s Nathan Sting.
