Armour: I'll quit if I lose comeback

ARMOUR: "I know that I'm one defeat away from calling it quits"

FORMER world champion Johnny Armour has revealed he is one defeat away from retirement ahead of his comeback bout.

Armour, 37, is set to fight an as yet unnamed opponent at York Hall in Bethnal Green on Saturday, February 11.

The six-round bout has been set up by Armour’s new management team the Fight Factory, headed by Eugene Maloney.

And victory could see Armour in line for a shot at a title, while defeat would see the Chatham-based fighter hang up his gloves for good.

He said: "It’s quite an exciting time. I’m making my comeback because I still think I can win fights but I know that I’m one defeat away from calling it quits so that gives me an extra edge.

"Eugene Maloney has said there is a title shot for me but obviously if I don’t win this warm-up fight, then that will go out of the window."

Armour has been working with new trainer Alan Smith at the Fight Factory’s Deptford base and he is confident he will be in great shape by the time of his first fight since his controversial defeat to Frenchman Tuncay Kaya in June 2005.

The evening includes four other undercard bouts and the headline event – Ryan Barrett versus Rob Jeffries for the Southern Area title.

Tickets cost £25 for normal seats and £40 for ringside and can be bought by phoning Johnny Armour’s father on 01634 818492.
