JOHNNY ARMOUR’S dream of defending his WBU bantamweight title in his own backyard has came a step closer to becoming reality. The Medway-based boxer harbours dreams of making the first defence of his title at Chatham's Historic Dockyard and his destruction of Ian Turner last Saturday night could pave the way for the fight to happen.
Armour has confirmed that his management is interested in viewing the facilities at the dockyard. Bill Fowler, the events director at the Historic Dockyard, said: "We are keen to help, especially when it's such a good opportunity to put Medway on the map. But apart from an initial conversation over a month ago, we haven't heard from their management team.”
Speaking after Saturday's bout, Armour said: "The fight went really well for me. I’m glad it went the distance because I really needed to get the rounds in. When I put him down my trainer (Terry Toole) just told me to take my time and I did what he told me so I could get time in the ring.
“Usually I would have gone at it hammer and tongs but it worked better for me to get the rounds in with the world title fight coming up.”
