Armour puts his title on the line

CHATHAM boxer Jonny Armour could lose his world title if he is beaten on Saturday night. Under WBU rules Armour could be stripped of his belt if he loses to Welshman Ian Turner, which is a prelude to his rematch with Francis Ampofo, even though it isn't a title bout and the title would go vacant.

But Armour is confident of doing the job at the York Hall in Bethnal Green. He said: "I've had my medical and my weight is ok so I can't wait until Saturday. There's a bit more pressure on me because I could lose my title but I know I can do the job. I just have to be careful.

"I don't know much about Turner apart from he's never been stopped and he's never been knocked out so it'll be a good work out for me before the Ampofo fight. I've been out for a long time and this is a big fight for me but I'm ready and I'm in great shape."

The fight takes on added importance for Armour as he could defend his title in front of his own fans at Chatham Dockyard at the end of January. "That would be a dream come true," he said. "It would be fantastic and it would be a sell out. That makes it even more important that I win on Saturday. My manager is dead keen to have the fight at the Dockyard and so are they so I've got to make sure I do the job."
