KENT boxer Johnny Armour may face Australian Nathan Sting in the third defence of his WBU bantamweight title.

Sources in the Armour camp suggest that Sting, from the Gold Coast, Queensland, is the most likely opponent for the Chatham champion at a date in late April or early May.

Sting, nicknamed The Real Thing, has a record of 24 wins (11 knock-outs), with six defeats and one draw.

Although it would be a stiff test for the 34-year-old title holder, he is confident he could do the business against the 29-year-old Aussie bantamweight champion.

He said: “I remember seeing him fight Stephen Oates. I know Stephen’s a good fighter and went the distance. He’s probably a game fighter because Stephen is a rough fighter. But he won’t worry me if I end up fighting him.

“He will probably think that this is his last chance to win a major title and he’ll go for it, but I’m confident I’ll have too much for him.”

Confirmation of opponent, date and venue, likely to be the York Hall, Bethnal Green, should be finalised within the next couple of weeks.
