JOHNNY ARMOUR'S dream of fighting in front of his home fans in Chatham could be coming true.
Armour's trainer Mark Roe has promised that his new promotional company AmPro Promotions will put on Armour's next fight and is to meet officials at the Historic Dockyard during the week to see if they can organise a show for July 10.
If it happens, it will be the first time Armour has fought in Kent since defeating Anatoly Kvitko at the Black Lion Centre, Gillingham, in May 1997.
Roe, who put on his first promotion in Gravesend last week, is lining up a South African opponent for an eight-round warm-up before they go looking for a title shot.
He said: "There'll be a lot of interest if we can get him on in Chatham. He's never fought there and there are not many champions that have never fought in their home town.
"I've got a meeting at the Dockyard next week. They seem keen so hopefully we can pull it off."
The 35-year-old former WBU bantamweight champion was understandably delighted with the news.
He said: "I'm delighted. This is just what I wanted and I really hope we can make it happen. I've always wanted to fight in Chatham and it looks like my dream could come true."
Armour is running along the beach for fitness and is travelling to Roe's gym in Crayford to work on his technique.
He added: "I've never used running on the beaches as part of my training before but it's really helping. It's like running through mud sometimes and I'm feeling really fit."
But Armour has threatened to quit if he doesn't get the chance to win a title soon.
"I've got my legacy and my children to think of and if I don't win a belt soon then I'm going to give the game up."
