Andy Barcham slammed in the Gillingham winner late on to see off Chester City on Saturday.

The Gills forward turned home Jaime Peters� cross with eleven minutes left to seal a third straight League 2 away win for Mark Stimson�s side.

After a quiet first 45 minutes the Gills had numerous chances in the second half and they deservedly took the points.

Chester�s goalkeeper John Danby was untested in the first-half as Gillingham struggled to find a way through the home defence early on.

The Gills were restricted to long range efforts and both of those fell to Adam Miller but sadly both were well off target.

Chester didn�t get much closer and Simon Royce remained untroubled as Jay Harris, Anthony Barry and Kevin Ellison all missed the mark.

There were appeals for a penalty from the home side when Stuart Lewis tripped Richie Partridge in the area, but the referee waved play on.

The first chance of the second half fell to Simeon Jackson but he shot well over the bar from 10 yards out. Gillingham�s first shot on target came after 53 minutes but it was a weak one by Miller and Danby comfortably claimed it.

Nicky Southall had the keeper working a bit harder to make a save minutes later as Gillingham made a positive start to the second half. The same player put an effort wide and headed one even closer as Chester were put on the back foot.

Gillingham were given a warning as a rare Chester chance saw Richie Partridge fire narrowly wide.

The Gills finally took advantage on 79 minutes when Barcham slid in to convert substitute Peters� cross from the right.

Chester came close to equalising when Stuart Lewis had to head Mark Hughes� effort off the line.

Manager Mark Stimson said: �We had so much possession in the final third in the first half. We should have probably made an extra pass around the goal instead of shooting from silly areas.

�Another pass would have set someone up or a one two and we would have had a better opportunity to score.

�In the second half we were in control. Against teams like Chester at set pieces you need to be on your toes and be aware because of the guys in their team.

�Stuart Lewis got one off the line, it hit his head and the crossbar and came back out and when things like that happen you know its going to be your day.

�It would have been an injustice if we didn�t come away with three points because of possession and half chances we had.�
