Gillingham matchwinner Andy Barcham wasn’t interested in personal glory after his goal earned the points at Chester on Saturday.
Barcham, 22, scored his sixth Gillingham goal since making the switch from Tottenham and Saturday’s was his first strike since making the move permanent.
He said: "I was happy with the goal but the most important thing was that we got the three points as it puts us back up the table.
“We’re going in the right direction. Other teams are going to win as well but it’s important for us to concentrate on what we’re doing. If we keep getting the wins, we’ll keep creeping up.
“We’re looking to get promoted. We’re in the play-off positions and if we can keep pushing on then there’s no reason why we can’t get into the automatic places.”
Barcham admitted Saturday’s performance wasn’t the greatest but the points were what mattered.
“It was sloppy all game to be fair and we didn’t play the way we wanted to,” he said. “But that was credit to them. That’s what we have to do, especially this part of the season we just have to get the points on the board.
“Although we didn’t play well, we still got the win. We played slightly better in the second half and we got the goal.”
