SCOTT BARRETT has moved a step closer to linking up with Mark Stimson at Gillingham.
Barrett resigned from his position as assistant manager at Stevenage on Friday, fuelling speculation that he will link-up again with Stimson, who was named Gills boss on Thursday afternoon.
Stevenage chairman Phil Wallace said: "Scott told us he'd been advised by others to take this action.
"I suppose we'll have to see what happens now. Scott had already told the directors that he would leave to go with Mark as soon as he got a job, so it's possible that Mark's appointment at Gillingham may have something to do with it, but we'll have to wait and see what happens next.
"The disappointing thing is that Scott did a professional job under difficult conditions after Mark left so it's a shame he's been advised to resort to this.
"However, I can't say that it's a total surprise after what's gone on so we'll let our lawyers deal with it in the normal manner.
"I think this draws a line under the Mark and Scott tenure at Stevenage and we can now all look forward to the future."
When asked about Barrett's future on Thursday, Gillingham chairman Paul Scally stated that he was under contract at Stevenage. However, Stimson indicated that he would be interested in working with him again.
