GILLINGHAM'S 10-game unbeaten home run ended on Saturday after losing to League 1?s basement side Port Vale.

The visitors cancelled out Chris Dickson?s opener, with two goals in 11 first half minutes, to climb off the bottom of the table and leave Gills manager Mark Stimson to reflect on his first ever home defeat.

"I?m disappointed because we got beat and frustrated because over the 90 minutes I thought we deserved something from the game," said Stimson.

"The players will be disappointed, but not overly down, because we created chances. We?ve just had three games in a week and got six points out of nine. If we can continue that then we?ll be way above where we are."

Dickson put the Gills ahead after 32 minutes, when he latched onto a perfectly weighted pass from Adam Miller, before steering home his 11th goal of the season.

Vale struck back two minutes later when Calum Willock was left unmarked to send a free header past Gills keeper Simon Royce.

And a minute before half-time the visitors took the lead. David McGoldrick surged forward and hit a fluffed chance towards the goal which was turned into his own net by defender Simon King.

Gillingham had a host of chances in the second half, and a penalty decision for a hand-ball turned down, and were unable to get back into the game.
