Bazeley transfer that never was

CONTRARY to reports elsewhere, Gillingham did not sign wing-back Darren Bazeley from Wolves on transfer deadline day last Thursday. The free transfer collapsed when the 29-year-old failed a medical on a knee injury.

Bazeley, capped by England at Under-21 level, knows Gillingham player-manager Andy Hessenthaler well from their days together at Watford where he made 240 appearances and scored 21 goals.

Since joining Wolves he has made 70 appearances and scored four goals. The Gills boss had intended giving Bazeley his Gillingham debut on saturday at Walsall where Hessenthaler celebrated his 100th game in charge since succeeding Peter Taylor.

The Gills Independent Supporters Club has presented defender Chris Hope with a silver salver to mark his 100th consecutive first team appearance at Walsall.
