Former Leicester striker Trevor Benjamin is on trial with Gillingham.
The 29-year-old, who previously had a spell on loan at Priestfield in 2003, is currently without a club having been released by Hereford at the end of last season.
He had trials with Cheltenham and Chester during the summer and played three games with Gainsborough Trinity on a non-contract basis this season before being released.
The former Jamaican international has made more than 340 appearances in a 13-year Football League career.
He began with Cambridge United in 1995 and made his debut as a 16-year-old in a 0-0 draw against Gillingham.
Having scored 46 goals in 146 games, Leicester manager Peter Taylor paid £1.5m to secure his services in 2000.
He went on loan six times before short spells with Northampton and Coventry in 2005.
He then moved to Peterborough, where he went out on loan four more times, before joining Hereford in 2007.
Benjamin will play in Wednesday's reserve game against Southampton at Priestfield along with three other trialists. They are Canadian forward Marcus Haber, former Arsenal schoolboy Albert Jarrett, who was previously with Watford and MK Dons, and Tyron Amory, who was released from Derby.
On the bench for the game, the Gills have named Roland Benedict, the son of Dirk - the faceman of The A-Team.
