Big boost as top target signs

SITTINGBOURNE Speedway club have announced another new signing ahead of this weekend's action.

Nick Simmons, 23, has been the Crusaders' main target since David McAllan left the club to join the Edinburgh Monarchs.

Sittingbourne have been using stop-gaps in the main heat-leader position while they were waiting to capture Simmons' signature.

Simmons has nearly eight years of riding experience, including some in the Premier League, and has twice been a Conference league title winner.

He has already signalled his intention to complete the 2005 campaign with the Iwade-based club.

The signing is a boost for Sittingbourne, who currently prop up the Conference table, especially as the club faces a hectic schedule of three matches in five days.

Simmons will make his debut on Friday against Weymouth and then the Old Gun Site will stage a double-header on Sunday, with Crusaders first taking on Buxton Hitmen from Derbyshire before a match up against the country's newest speedway team, the Scunthorpe Scorpions.
