Bisons boost for Dynamos

AN INDICATION of how good the Medway ice hockey side Dynamos are this season came this week when the Basingstoke Bisons, given a real scare at the Gillingham Ice Bowl in early September, made it through to the Findus British National League semi-finals.

Knowing that they more than held their own against one of the current top four FBNL teams has given the players real satisfaction and confidence for the coming English National Premier League season.

This was evident last weekend on the ice as Invicta started their league campaign by beating Haringey Greyhounds and the Isle of Wight Raiders 4-9 and 5-2 respectively.

This weekend Dynamos turn their attention to the ENPL Cup and once again face Haringey before returning to the league and an encounter with England Under-19s.

Both are games player coach Andy Hannah expects to win. He said: "Haringey did not give us any surprises with the guys expected to do the business like Zoran Kozic and Ryan Mair - both good hockey players - scoring against us.

"They did not play extremely well yet still put four past us so we will be looking to do better this weekend. Hopefully it should be another step closer to the cup final for us.

"As for the Under-19s we expect them to be a strong crew of kids taken from good teams around the country. It should be a great game but again one we believe we will win."

Mo's strongest title challengers Swindon Innogy Lynx rounded off their opening league weekend with a steady 6-2 win at Nottingham Lions. This followed the previous evening's 6-2 win over the Romford Raiders making the Lynx and Dynamos the only teams with maximum points.

Entrance to Sunday's game at the Ice Bowl, face off 5-15pm, cost £7 for adults, £4 for children under 16 or a family ticket (two adults, two children) costs £20.
