Visually-impaired cricketer Mark Bond will travel to Barbados this summer to take on the West Indies Blind Cricket Team.

Bond, from Bromley, will play three matches against the Windies as part of the Cricket 4 Change Development programme which is made up of players from across London and the South East.

The programme is being used to develop England’s future players and that is the 17-year-old’s goal.

He said: “This is a trip of a lifetime for me and it will be a great chance for me to develop my skills and to work towards a future as an England international.”

Bond has been supported by Langley Park Rotary Club and their donation of £150 has assisted in making the trip possible.

The team, which is made up of players aged between 13 and 19, will be helped by former England blind bowler Andy Dalby-Welsh and Andy Sellins, who has coached the England Blind side for 10 years.

Dalby-Welsh said: "The young people’s commitment has been fantastic and they are improving beyond recognition. The trip will not only assist them to reach their cricketing potential but will offer so much in terms of life skills as well.”
