Bill Britton won the Watson Trophy at Dartford Golf Club.
Britton, who plays out of Pedham Place Golf Club, shot 67 to equal the competition’s lowest score set by Jason Morris (Rochester & Cobham) in 2003.
Despite a spell of heavy overnight rain and the threat of more to come, the 18-hole competition for Kent club champions, eventually got underway after a one hour delay for clearing puddled greens.
After the opening nine holes, Royal Blackheath junior Jack Read led after shooting a one under par 33.
He was pressed by Nick Panting (Deangate Ridge) and Britton who were both one shot behind.
Dartford’s Darren Crabb, Ben Collins (Chart Hills), Matt Hervey (Langley Park) and David Jessup Jnr (Rochester & Cobham) were all on 35 while twice reigning champion Michael Bush (Rochester & Cobham) was adrift on 37.
On the back nine, Panting lost his place after shooting 37 as did Hervey.
Jessup and Collins fell out of the running after carding 38 and 39 respectively while Bush’s 35 came too late.
Britton’s two under par 33 was enough to give him the trophy while Crabb’s 34 took him into second place on countback over Read who closed with a 36.
