A DISCIPLINED bowling performance saw Bromley lift the Cockspur Cup in a thrilling final at Lords.

Skipper James Butterfill snared two wickets in the final over to give his side a nailbiting four run victory over Kibworth - and make up for the disappointment of losing at the same stage 12 months ago.

Former Kent and England batsman Alan Wells hit a composed 64 on a slow wicket in Bromley’s 179 all out after Butterfill had elected to bat.

James Watson (47) shared a crucial fourth wicket stand of 90 with his experienced colleague, who needed a runner after straining a groin muscle towards the end of his innings.

Bromley’s strong bowling line up never allowed their Leicestershire opponents – featuring eight members of the side who had won the competition in 2004 - to get on top of the run rate, despite an opening partnership of 49.

With the pressure building, off spinner Grant Sheen found some turn in the wicket to rip through the middle order with 4-30.

Kibworth looked to be back in the game when they smashed 16 from the 43rd over, leaving a target of 11 off the last 12 balls.

But firstly Ruel Brathwaite (2-32) and then Butterfill (2-4) kept their cool to take two wickets in each of the last two overs and dismiss their opponents for 175.
